THE VILLAGE OF BURK’S
FALLS
COUNCIL MINUTES
The Regular meeting of the Burk’s Falls Council was held on Tuesday
December 16, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. All members of Council were present.
Mike Zrobin was present to discuss a snowmobile trail into the Village
to get food and gas. The former trail is not available because of
ongoing construction. One alternative is to use the unopened portion of
Huston Street west of Ontario Street. He asked Council to come up with
any alternatives and the snowmobile club would work with them to have a
safe route into the Village.
Len Hall, Village Foreman – Water and Wastewater Operator was present to
give his report.
Mary Beth Hartill, reporter from the Almaguin News was also in
attendance. Her main interest was the item regarding a medal given to a
former Burk’s Falls resident on his return from WW1 and is listed on
e-bay.

presented from Vic Fell Memorial Legion Br. 405 to conduct a raffle
lottery provided all regulations are adhered to.

OFFICE OF THE REEVE- VILLAGE OF BURK’S FALLS, ONTARIO
CRIME STOPPERS MONTH- JANUARY 2009
WHEREAS CRIME STOPPERS IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY, THE MEDIA
AND THE POLICE SERVICES AND HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY OPERATING IN THE
VILLAGE OF BURK’S FALLS SINCE JULY 1988
WHEREAS CRIME STOPPERS IS A NON-PROFIT, COMMUNITY BASED VOLUNTEER
ORGANIZATION AND OPERATES ENTIRELY ON DONATIONS AND CONTRIBUTIOS FROM
INDIVIDUALS, BUSINESSES, AND ASSOCIATIONS,
WHEREAS CRIME STOPPERS PROVIDES THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH AN ANONYMOUS
MEANS TO PASS ALONG INFORMATION ON CRIMES AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES TO THE
POLICE SERVICES.
WHEREAS CRIME STOPPERS PROMOTES PUBLIC AWARENESS IN THE PREVENTION OF
CRIME.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CATHY STILL, REEVE OF THE VILLAGE OF BURK’S FALLS DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2009 AS CRIME STOPPERS MONTH. IN
WITNESS WHEREOF I HAVE HEREUNTO SET MY HAND AND CAUSED THE SEAL OF THIS
CITY TO BE AFFIXED.

B. CAMPBELL – LEWIS HODGSON:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approves submitting a
bid for the purchase of a 1919 medal on e-bay up to a maximum of $
300.00 U.S. Funds. This medal was presented to A. Starks on August 4,
1919 by the Citizens of Burk’s Falls for gallant services in the great
war1914-1918.

That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls hereby authorize the
Reeve and the Clerk to sign the Acknowledgement and Direction documents
presented by Thoms & Currie on behalf of the Municipality and affix the
Seal of the Corporation thereto.

THAT WE ACCEPT THE QUOTATION FROM STAN DARLING INSURANCE INC. IN THE
AMOUNT OF $54,106.00 FOR INSURANCE PROTECTION IN 2009.

the Village of Burk’s Falls enters into a closed meeting at 21:20.

THAT WE ACCEPT THE ACCOUNTS PAYABLE AS PRESENTED UP TO AND INCLUDING
DECEMBER 16, 2008 IN THE AMOUNT OF $196,276.29.
AND HEREBY AUTHORIZE THE CLERK/TREASURER TO ISSUE CHEQUES FOR SAME.
