THE VILLAGE OF BURK’S FALLS
COUNCIL MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Burk’s Falls Council was held on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers. All members of Council were present. Brain Darnbrough – By-Law Enforcement Officer – was present to give his report. Len Hall – Village Foreman and Waterworks Operator – attended to give his report

Chad Stuart from Muskoka Containerized Services attended for the opening of the garbage pickup tenders.
Councillor Rex Smith declared a conflict of interest on the garbage pickup tender and left the meeting when Council was discussing this tender.

The following resolutions were passed:

Rex Smith – Cathy Still
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls adopts the minutes of the July 26, 2005 meeting as circulated.

Bruce Campbell – Lewis Hodgson
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls accepts the tender from Smith’s Mobile Sweeper for garbage pick up in the Village for the year 2006 in the amount of $28,355.00 and the year 2007 in the amount of $29,425.00.
Rex Smith declared a conflict and refrained from all discussion.

Bruce Campbell – Rex Smith
That the Council authorize the Village Foreman to have the 1985 International bucket truck work done as set out by Drakar on their annual inspection. Work to be done by Rob Davis.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the application from the Lion’s Club to operate a Cable TV Bingo beginning on September 9, 2005.

That we appoint Lewis Hodgson to the “Lure of Almaguin” committee marketing project.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls declare the week of October 17-23, 2005 Canada’s Citizenship Week.

Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read Resolution 190/05 from the County of Frontenac regarding Part VII of the Employment Standards Act, 2000 as amended;
And that Council supports the concerns expressed in this resolution;
Therefore the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls forwards its support to the County of Frontenac for their presentation to the Minister of Labour for consideration.

Rex Smith – Lewis Hodgson
The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls agrees to support the Burk’s Falls, Armour and Ryerson Economic Development Committee in the amount of $400.00 for its September 26th meeting. Conditional on this being a 1/3rd commitment by each municipality.

Rex Smith – Cathy Still
The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approves the accounts payable as presented up to and including August 23, 2005 in the amount of $57,194.42 and hereby authorize the Clerk to issue cheques for same.

Lewis Hodgson – Cathy Still
As per the Municipal Act S.O. 2001, c.25 as amended, p.239 (2) Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls enters into a closed meeting at 9:00 pm.

Bruce Campbell – Lewis Hodgson
As per the Municipal Act S.O. 2001, c.25 as amended, p.239 (2) Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls exits from a closed meeting at 9:30 pm.

Rex Smith – Lewis Hodgson
That the Village of Burk’s Falls write a letter to Colin Vickers, Director of Education, Near North District School Board, in answer to his reply to our Resolution of June 28, 2005 and circulate to all addressees.

Lewis Hodgson – Cathy Still
The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls do now adjourn at 10:00 pm until the next regular meeting of Council on September 27, 2005.
