FALLS
COUNCIL MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Burk’s Falls
Council was held on Tuesday, September 28, 2004. All members of Council
were present. Staff/Sergeant Bill Ayotte of the Almaguin Highlands O.P.P.
was present. He had the policing stats from January 01 to August 31, 2004
and the comparison to the same time period in 2003. There has been a
substantial decrease in the number of calls in the Village. A phone survey
has been completed with the results to the tabulated and forwarded to the
municipal offices.
KATHY PARKER and BRENDA SCOTT from the Micro Business Development Centre
were present. They gave a Power Point Presentation on the many aspects of
the Centre. They host many seminars on all aspects of business. Pamphlets
were left to be picked up at the Village Office by anyone interested in
obtaining more information. The Centre is looking for financial assistance
for 2005; a letter will be sent to each municipality before the end of the
year.

That we adopt the Minutes of the August 24, 2004 meeting as circulated.
Lewis Hodgson - Bruce Campbell
The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approves the purchase on an
OKI data 590 dot matrix printer from Burk’s Falls Radio & TV in the amount
of $759.00 plus tax.
Cathy Still - Bruce Campbell
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approves the tender
submitted by Signcraft, in the amount of $149.00 plus applicable taxes for
a sign at the Skateboard Park.
Bruce Campbell - Cathy Still
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approves the applications
by James Quinn, dated August 27th, 2004 for water and sewer services at
332 High St, provided the work is approved by the Village Foreman.
Bruce Campbell - Lewis Hodgson
The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the application as
presented by the Burk’s Falls Figure Skating Club to conduct a raffle
lottery provided all regulations are adhered to.
Cathy Still - Bruce Campbell
The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the application as
presented by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 405 to conduct a Break Open
Ticket Lottery provided all regulations are adhered to.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the application as
presented by the M.A. Wittick Parent Support Group to conduct a raffle
lottery provided all regulations are adhered to.
Cathy Still - Rex Smith
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls declares October 18-24,
2004 Waste Reduction Week in the Village and encourage all residents of
the Village to recognize the importance of reducing waste in our
community.
Lewis Hodgson - Bruce Campbell
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read the letter from
the Ontario Division Canadian Union of Public Employees regarding child
care workers.
And that the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls declares Wednesday
October 27, 2004 as Child Care Worker & Early Childhood Educator
Appreciation Day in recognition of the influence, dedication and
commitment of child care workers to children, their families and quality
of life of the community.
Lewis Hodgson - Rex Smith
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the insurance
proposal running from September 15-December 31, 2004 in the amount of
$10,924.00 with Stan Darling Insurance Inc.
Rex Smith - Bruce Campbell
That we accept the Accounts Payable as presented up to and including
September 28, 2004 in the amount of $175,224.91 and hereby authorize the
Clerk/Treasurer to issue cheques for the same.
Bruce Campbell - Cathy Still
We do now adjourn at 10:15pm until the next regular meeting of Council
scheduled for October 26, 2004.
