THE VILLAGE OF BURK’S
FALLS
COUNCIL MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Burk’s Falls
Council was held on Tuesday August 24, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. All members of
Council were present. Lisa Armstrong, Manager/Director of Dempster-Allair
Funeral Home approached Council regarding the Parking By-law. She
requested an exception from the 6 meter from the intersection section for
funerals and funeral processions only and to put the No parking as a slash
lines on the asphalt with the sign at the corner rather than directly in
front of the funeral home. Council will amend the by-law honour this
request.
John Stark, By-Law Enforcement Officer was present to give his report. The
Property Standards By-law brings the most complaints. Council granted him
permission to go to Parry Sound for an information and training session on
by-laws and their enforcement.
Len Hall, Village Foreman attended to give his report.
The following resolutions were passed:
Lewis Hodgson- Bruce Campbell:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls adopts the minutes of the
July 27, 2004 meeting as circulated and the August 11, 20004 meeting as
read.
Lewis Hodgson – Cathy Still:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls petition the Provincial
government to strongly reconsider it’s decision to close the Leslie Frost
Centre in Dorset.
B. Campbell – Lewis Hodgson:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read the resolution
presented by the Township of Greater Madawaska regarding Regulation
170/-3. And that the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls supports the
concerns expressed in this resolution. And that our resolution of support
be sent to the Township of Greater Madawaska for their presentation.
Cathy Still - Lewis Hodgson:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read the resolution
presented by the Town of North Perth regarding the ongoing Bovine
Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) crisis ongoing for frontline producers in
the red meat industry. And that the Council for the Village of Burk’s
Falls forward our support to the Town of North Perth for their
presentation to the Federal and Provincial government.
Rex Smith – Cathy Stilly
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read the resolution
presented by the Township of South West Oxford and the resolution
presented by the Municipality of Kincardine expressing concern with the
Provincial government’s decision to phase out the grants under the
Municipal Outlet Drainage Program.
And that the Council for the Village of Burk’s falls supports these
concerns and forwards our resolution to the Township of South West Oxford
for their presentation to the Provincial government.
Lewis Hodgson – B. Campbell:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s falls approve the application
as presented by the Church of the Holy Spirit Women’s Group to conduct a
raffle lottery provided all regulations are adhered to.
B. Campbell – Cathy Still
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have reviewed the
application for rebate of property taxes re Roll 49 22 000 003 11900 for
the year 2003.
And that Council feels this is a reasonable request and approves the
rebate for the 2003 taxation year.
Rex Smith – Cathy Still
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the Accounts
Payable as presented up to and including August 24, 2004 in the amount of
$ 66,205.11 and hereby authorize the Clerk treasurer to issue cheques for
same.
B. Campbell – Lewis Hodgson:
That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls do now adjourn at 9:32 pm
until the next regular meeting of Council of September 28, 2004.
